Reading your bible is great, but not enough to swarm your heart with revelation knowledge.
Reading is okay.... but, trust me when I say it is absolutely the most shallow mode of engagement of God's word. Why read when you can study? Why read when you can meditate? Why read when you can hear? Every scripture has a mouth. It is SAYING something to your spirit, not your mind.
It's not a storybook. That's for excitement.
It's not a magazine. That's for entertainment
It's not a textbook. That's for worldly education
It's not a catalogue. That's an articulated, illustrated database.
It's not a pamphlet. That's a fleeting piece of information.
It's not a poster or billboard. That's trying to get your attention
It is the word of God, and unequivocally, God Himself (John 1:1). That's why you have to embrace that God (His word) speaks to you (Matthew 4:4).
You are not reading just to get information. You are reading to get enlightened by a rhema (spoken word of God).
You are studying it to get revelation. Not to pass an exam, but to excel when the trials and tests of life come around (and trust me, they will always come).
Beloved, you are studying God Himself when you spend time with His word.
You are getting to know Him better. You are getting acquainted with Him, His ways and His promises to you. Awesome or awesome?!
Breezing through the bible in a 365-day reading plan (just to add that as a feather to your theological cap) will not profit your spirit as much as HEARING God talk to you through those same scriptures. He is always ready to "talk" to you. But sometimes, you are in too much of a hurry, so you simply breeze in and out of His presence.
Beyond being a "reading and speaking" time, your Quiet Time should be a "listening" time.
Calm down. Listen. You will hear so much more than you could ever read and believe me when I say the trajectory of your faith-walk will become glorious as you "hear" Him more and more.
...this is my beloved Son; hear Him (Luke 9:35)
